Oral Cancer Screening

Detecting oral cancer early typically results in a higher rate of treatment success. Dr. Rioseco uses the VELscope® Oral Assessment System to help him detect abnormalities in the oral tissues, such as cancerous growths and precancers, sooner than a visual examination alone might reveal.

Dental Examination

We recommend yearly oral examinations to review the health of your teeth, gums, and soft tissues. During your examination, Dr. Rioseco will perform the following:

  • Digital x-rays to examine tooth and bone structure.
  • Test each tooth with the DIAGNOdent® system to detect the presence of decay.
  • Inspect periodontal pockets and gum tissue for signs of gum disease.
  • Screen for oral cancer.
  • Review your health history.

Based on the results of your examination, Dr. Rioseco may suggest treatments to prevent decay (i.e. sealants and fluoride treatments), repair problem areas, and improve dental health.

Dental Cleaning

Dental cleanings are recommended every six months for those with good dental health, and, in some cases, every 3 or 4 months for patients with dental concerns that require extra monitoring and cleanings. The goal of every cleaning is to remove stains, plaque, calculus, and bacterial biofilm from the teeth to prevent decay and disease. Every cleaning is finished with a polishing of the teeth, stain removal treatment, and a thorough flossing.

Periodontal Care

If signs of gingivitis or periodontitis (gum disease) are detected during your examination or cleaning, Dr. Rioseco may recommend periodontal treatments to eliminate bacteria and improve gingival health. There is a wide range of treatments and procedures he may suggest, and the options he chooses will depend upon the severity of your situation. We also offer laser dentistry options for treating gum disease and revising the appearance of the gums.

Root Canal Treatment and Restoration

Root canal treatment is designed to prevent tooth loss when serious damage affects the health and structure of the tooth. When the inner dental pulp of the tooth becomes inflamed or infected due to trauma or decay, root canal treatment must be performed to remove the affected pulp, clean the canals, treat infection, and seal any openings. Once treatment is successful, Dr. Rioseco works to restore the natural form and structure of the tooth by placing a custom crown.
